So it’s been years. Somehow, I still don’t have a website.

It's ridiculous. Honestly, it’s embarrassing.

After a year on LinkedIn, it became apparent that I should really build a website for my consulting business.

It’s now been THREE YEARS, and thanks to a series of false starts and misfires (entirely my fault), I still don’t have one.

So today, I thought I would share how I found myself in this predicament, and walk you through the landing page I’ve created for now, while my designer is working on my website.

How Did This Happen?

First off, how the hell did this happen?

It happened because I wanted my personal website to be everything - a place to share my thoughts and ideas on entrepreneurship, and my entrepreneur journey, and maybe a podcast, and a youtube channel, and digital products, and of course LinkedIn.

The vision was this big, broad overarching thing that kept getting bigger (and worse).

What I Should Have Done

What I should have done was settle on 1-2 specific goals for the website, and built around those. I should have intentionally worked with constraints, and then added on other stuff later on.

I could have had a nicely designed landing page up a year ago. This mistake has probably cost me $50-$100k in lost business.


What Am I Doing Now?

I built a simple landing page in Notion for the time being. Notion isn’t interested in your design nonsense. You get almost no choice with things like fonts and colors. Everything looks like a Notion page. And that’s fine.

Next, I focused on one goal only - a landing page for LinkedIn consulting clients.

Here's the breakdown:

Banner

This is by far the most important part of the landing page. It will decide whether or not the prospect will continue reading.


Title

A clear, compelling promise of what I will deliver if you work with me.

Subtitle

Elaborate on the promise with more detail

Bullet points

5 bullet points highlighting the outcomes my clients will receive.



Who It's For

I highlight who I work with, and why I’m ideally suited to help those people.

I work with entrepreneurs who want to succeed on LinkedIn.

I’m ideally suited to help as I have been an entrepreneur for 15 years, and I teach the exact system I used to grow to 100k followers and multiple six figures in revenue.


Call To Action I

I provide a call to action for prospects to take the next step, and book their introductory call with me.

I also make this an attractive, low friction action to take.

  • The introductory call is free
  • They will get value from it in the form of a profile and content review

I include a photo of myself here to humanize it and show that they’ll be meeting with me personally.


Why It's Not Working For You

I highlight the mistakes my clients are making when we first start working together. I “prod the pain” by highlighting what will happen if they continue not to take action to remedy the situation.

Social Proof

I share client testimonials to provide ample evidence that my offer works.

Testimonials have been edited for brevity. I highlight the tangible outcome that the client received from working with me. I also call out the most important outcome achieved in the title of each testimonial.

How It Works

I share the process of how we’ll work together.

Call To Action II

I repeat the call to action, having built more urgency and trust.

About Me

I provide details about myself, and embrace aspects of my personal brand that are unique to me:

  • My 15 years’ experience as an entrepreneur
  • How quickly I grew my audience on LinkedIn
  • My experience as a musician
  • What drives me in life

My goal here is for my own story to resonate with entrepreneurs who have similar values to myself.


FAQ

I provide a detailed FAQ to address objections and provide clarity.

I cover details including:

Guarantee - I provide a money back guarantee, which removes risk.

Who I work with - I pre-qualify clients so I only book time with ideal fit clients

Pricing - I provide clear details on my fees

How long does it take - I give an estimate of how long it will take before clients to see meaningful results from working together.


I have an amazing designer working on my website now. I’m looking forward to sharing it when it’s done.

In the meantime, this basic (and free) Notion page is perfectly workable. It communicates all the key details about who I work with and how I help them.

It’s far from perfect, but it’s done. It exists. It’s real.
And that’s a lot better than a perfect website that I haven’t built yet.
